"New Orleans will Rebuild"

And I can say this since no one reads my blog...

Why?

The city has been sinking further and further below sea level for years. The mighty Mississippi is trying to redirect itself. With the rising sea levels, eventually the area is going to look like the Everglades.

Am I suggesting that the entire area be abandoned? Not at all! But hazard mitigation is the wave of the future. After the Midwest floods of 1993, FEMA and other government officials worked very hard to direct redevelopment efforts. Many homes and communities were moved out of floodplains that had been a problem for years. So why not move ports and parishes that were totally devestated further inland ? Rebuild them where the ocean will not reclaim them in another 50 years?

Oh wait...that's long term planning and that is of no benefit to politicians currently in office. Duh!
