It's Baaaack
Bummer!
After nearly 10 months of clean reports, my dad's latest CT came back with a 2cm mass at the upper part of the lung.
We got the report last Tuesday. The bronchoscopy (sp) was scheduled for Friday. Thursday we went in for routine pre-op testing and they found that my dad also has some major heart trouble. He's been in the hospital since Thursday getting meds and lots of tests. So far, the lung cancer hasn't metastizied (sp) to the traditional spots (liver, bones, brain).
He's also been taking folic acid and getting vitamin shots to prep him for his new chemo drug, Alimta. (www.alimta.com) He's going to be taking that along with taxotere which is not a normal combo. Not sure what we're going to do about the cost of Alimta (over $4K/month) Maybe we'll arrange for him to take chemo at the hospital and work something out with them. It's not like my dad has anything that they can take.
I'm finding myself not doing well with this. I knew it would come back...its lung cancer after all. But I'm finding myself getting really shut down with this.
